CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department announced Monday evening that they will be holding a press conference on Tuesday in regards to an operation held earlier today where officers served search and arrest warrants at the Ardmore subdivision in West Ashley.
Police officials say the press conference will be held at noon on Tuesday.
Dozens of police officers were spotted throughout the subdivision going door to door serving warrants Monday afternoon. The neighborhood is in the area of the Famous Joe's parking lot, where 17-year-old Marley Lion was shot to death.
Neighbors in the area said they were told by police that arrests were made during the operation.
"They said they arrested three people," said Shirley Williams. "They weren't supposed to be in the neighborhood."
"We go to a meeting at 12:30 p.m. and there was probably 50 police around," said Jim, another neighbor. "And they had the bomb truck parked in the parking lot. So, we just assumed it was a meth lab or something."
Police officials have not said whether the warrants are connected to Lion's investigation. Lion was shot to death in his SUV during an attempted carjacking on June 16.
Devante Pittman said he was out riding his bike when he saw the police converge on the neighborhood.
"I saw a bunch of cop cars and police all over the place," Pittman said. "They were knocking from door to door."
According to the Charleston Police Department's website, three people were arrested in the Ardmore area on Monday. Two were arrested on drug charges, while one was charged with obstruction of justice.
