LAS VEGAS (WCSC) - Police say a man wanted for robbing a West Ashley bank last Friday was caught by the U.S. Marshals Task Force in front of a Las Vegas casino on Wednesday.

The Charleston Police Department says Mark Luppino was arrested for robbing the First Federal Bank on 1309 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard.

Luppino was charged with entering a financial institution with the intent to steal and was locked up at the Clarke County Detention Center in Las Vegas.

According to police, the suspect went to the West Ashley bank around 12:15 p.m. on Friday and implied he had a weapon. Investigators say the suspect got away with $1,254 and that no one was injured.

"I was in the [bank] and saw the guy in there, but didn't pay any attention to him," said Albert Smalls, a customer at the bank. "And it didn't dawn on me that he was there to rob the bank. I didn't realize he was robbing the bank, until I came out and that's when everybody was saying the bank got robbed."

Authorities say the Charleston County Sheriff's Office Extradition Team will make arrangements to return Luppino back to Charleston.
