FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting which happened on Folly Beach over the weekend.

The shooting happened on East Indian Avenue, near Center Street, around 7 p.m. on Saturday, according to a Folly Beach Public Safety incident report.

The report states around 6:36 p.m., several officers responded to the 300 block of East Ashley for a man attempting to break into a silver Nissan. A witness said that the suspect was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and had a white hood or shirt around his head covering his face.

The witness said the suspect jumped into a dark blue Dodge truck and fled the area.

Several moments later, an officer advised dispatch that a good Samaritan said that the suspect was on East Indian Avenue. The officer then advised dispatch he was on his way to the area.

At 7:20 p.m., the officer reported that shots had been fired due to the suspect attempting to run him over with his truck. All available units then responded to the area as the officer reported that the suspect fled the area in the truck.

While investigating the incident, it was discovered a vehicle, which had been located near the shooting incident, had been broken into.

Folly Beach dispatch said they contacted area hospitals, but did not find the suspect.

SLED is continuing the shooting investigation.
