WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC)- Police have charged a teen in connection with an armed robbery at a West Ashley apartment complex.

Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis said 18-year-old Isaac Jerrel Smith was arrested on Monday for his role in an armed robbery which happened on June 12 at an apartment complex on Ashley Hall Road.

Police say the incident occurred about 10 p.m. while the victim was walking from her mailbox to her apartment at 1735 Ashley Hall Road. Police say Smith walked up holding a handgun and took her leather bag.

Smith is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
