WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Authorities arrested two people this week after discovering a meth lab in a Walterboro hotel.
Officials with Walterboro Public Safety and the Colleton County Sheriff's Office arrested 35-year-old Kevin Ashley Hill and 19-year-old Candace Marie Smoak after finding the meth lab in the Southern Inn on Bells Highway on Tuesday.
According to a spokesman for the investigation, officials initiated surveillance at the hotel after receiving a tip. Investigators said the surveillance led them to conduct a traffic stop on Hill and Smoak, and during that stop they found items that "confirmed [their] suspicions."
Following a search of the car, a search of the hotel room was held and the meth lab was discovered.
Hill and Smoak are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. They are being held in the Colleton County Detention Center.
