ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a 36-year-old man accused of selling drugs near a school was arrested after leading a deputy on a foot chase following a traffic stop.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office charged Leonard Guinyard with failure to stop for a blue light, distributing a controlled substance near a school and distribution of cocaine base.
It all started when a deputy said he saw Guinyard make two traffic violations while traveling on Legrand Smoak Street in Cordova. The deputy said he turned on his blue lights and could see Guinyard looking at him in his rear view mirror and continued to drive off.
An incident report states that Guinyard jumped out of his vehicle and began to run at Dilligaf Road.
Authorities say they were able to detain Guinyard and found a plastic bag with 8 grams of cocaine base in his hand.
"All of our officers and investigators are not only responding to calls for service from citizens but they are also patrolling streets and communities to make them safer," Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said.
