CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are asking for the public's help identifying a man wanted for robbing a woman at gunpoint in downtown Charleston late Saturday.
Charleston Police Department officers say the woman was walking on the sidewalk at 39 Spring Street just before 11 p.m. when a man walked up, pulled out a gun, and told her to give up her purse.
After she gave him the purse, the victim said the man ran towards King Street.
The suspect is described a black male in his mid-to-late forties with slightly scruffy facial hair, standing about 6' and weighing about 200 pounds. At the time of the crime, the victim says he was wearing a black baseball cap, a t-shirt and denim jeans.
Police say he may be driving a smaller silver in color SUV with a standard roof rack. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111 or Charleston Police at 577-7434.
