CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say two people captured a man suspected of breaking into cars in downtown Charleston.
The Charleston Police Department charged 22-year-old Justin Marcus Boyd of Folly Beach with four counts of breaking into a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana.
Last Wednesday night, officers responded to a larceny on Pinckney and Meeting streets. When officers arrived, the victim and a witness already had Boyd in custody.
The witness told police he saw the suspect sitting in the driver's seat of the victim's vehicle. Police say the witness went and got the victim and they confronted the suspect.
According to investigators, the victim and witness chased the suspect and caught him about a block away on Maiden Lane. Police say the suspect had taken the victim's credit card from the vehicle and also had .05 ounces of marijuana in his possession.
Authorities say when the suspect fled the victim's car, he left his bicycle and a set of golf clubs next to the victim's vehicle. The golf clubs had been taken from another vehicle on Pinckney Street.
Boyd is also accused of two other break-ins on the same day.
Officers say someone entered an unlocked vehicle on Hasell Street and took six gift cards and a canister of pepper spray
Later that evening, a woman purchased an iPad from an electronics store on King Street and walked to her SUV on George Street.
When the victim placed her bags in the rear of her SUV and sat down, a man opened the rear door of the SUV. Police say the man then stole the iPad box, which was empty since the woman had already taken the iPad out of the its container.
The suspect then ran down King Street towards Calhoun Street.
