SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a man who fired several gun shots out of a home during a standoff with SWAT teams on Birmingham Drive in Sangaree was taken into custody Tuesday night.

Sheriff's office spokesman Dan Moon said the suspect came out and surrendered after authorities spoke to him through the telephone. Moon said that the suspect was tased when he came out and then transported to the hospital by EMS.
According to Moon, the man fired several gun shots during the standoff but no shots were fired by law enforcement.
Moon said authorities were originally called to the home to check on a man who told his wife he was going to hurt himself. According to Moon, the man then started shooting as soon as police pulled up.
Authorities then evacuated four nearby homes. Neighbors in the area say they were also told to stay inside their homes as authorities worked the situation.
One homeowner said she heard what she thought were firecrackers when the gunshots first rang out.
At least 50 officers from different agencies responded to the incident.
