SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the U.S. Marshals Office say they were able to catch a North Carolina attempted murder suspect thanks to golfers at a Summerville country club.

Investigators say 21-year-old Elijah McCutchen was arrested in a neighborhood near the Pine Forest Country Club after golfers there helped the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office locate the man.

McCutchen is wanted in North Carolina for allegedly shooting at a woman as she was pulling into her driveway while he was burglarizing her home.

Operation Intercept, the U.S. Marshal led fugitive task force in South Carolina, received information that McCutchen was staying at a trailer within the 200 block of Dean Drive in Summerville.

U.S. Marshals say minutes before investigators approached the address, McCutchen slipped out the back door and ran onto the Pine Forest Country Club. Dorchester County Sheriff's K-9 began to track McCutchen through the various holes on the golf course. Investigators say with some assistance from some golfers, the K-9 tracked McCutchen to an adjacent neighborhood where he was apprehended.

"Mr. McCutchen thought he would be able to slip into anonymity running through the golf course, but didn't anticipate a dog being able to track his scent," Kelvin Washington, the U.S. Marshal for South Carolina said." I would like to also thank the concerned citizens who helped point law enforcement in the right direction. Thanks to everyone's hard work in capturing Mr. McCutchen, he can now face justice back in North Carolina."

The Bladen County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina has charged McCutchen with attempted murder and burglary.
