WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities are investigating a body that was discovered in a wooded area near the Walmart on Bees Ferry in West Ashley.

According to Charleston police, a man was walking in the woods looking for turtles around 5 p.m. when he found a badly decomposed body.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.

Charleston Police Department Spokesman Charles Francis says that the investigation of the body is not related to Gayle McCaffrey, who's been missing for about a month. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office, who's been investigating McCaffrey's disappearance, says they are not involved in the investigation of the body found in West Ashley.
