DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office on Thursday released surveillance video of a snatch and grab from an Ashley Phosphate Road jewelry store

The video from February 23, shows a man grabbing an expensive gold chain out of the hand of a clerk at the Treasure Hut.

Store owner Medford Chason was in the back of the store when he heard the clerk scream.

"She's on one side of the counter and he snatched it out of her hand and out the door in a matter of two or three seconds," Chason said. "What do you do? How do you stop that?"

Another employee chased the suspect behind the store but lost sight of him.

Chason believes the snatch and grab was pre planned.

"In looking at the video he didn't touch anything in here, and we're very careful to clean the counters after every customer where we can get fingerprints."

Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight said the suspect probably lives in the neighborhood.

"He knows the area, knows the surroundings, how to get himself in, get out, get going quick enough that we couldn't get to him," Knight said. "He's either crazy or very brazen."
