NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police have arrested an 18-year-old man who they say robbed and shot a pizza delivery driver on Friday night.
According to police, Stephawn Sherod Brown lived in the Appian Way Apartments where the murder happened. He was found and arrested not far from the scene.
According to the Dorchester County Coroner's Office, 20-year-old Maraleius Birdsong is the victim and he died this morning.
Police were called to Appian Way Apartments on Patriot Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. When they got there, they found Birdsong lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to MUSC where he later died.
According to police, Birdsong was trying to deliver a pizza at the apartment complex but the renter told him they didn't order any food. As he was walking back to his car, two men robbed and shot him. The men were seen running from the scene after one pulled the trigger.
Brown is being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center and a bond hearing will be held on Monday.
