LADSON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County Sheriff's Office investigators have decided not to file charges against the man who shot and killed another man in Ladson early last Tuesday.
After a week-long investigation, investigators say the man was acting under the South Carolina Protection of Persons and Property Act when he shot and killed 31-year-old Artremain Grant, the man he believed was trying to carjack him. The act is more commonly known as the "Castle Doctrine."
Deputies say the incident happened at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Mar. 13 at the intersection of Ladson Road and Highway 78. The victim said he was sitting in his vehicle when another vehicle drove up behind him. The victim said Grant got out of the car and began pulling on his car door and banging on the window.
The victim told deputies he thought he was being carjacked, so he shot him.
Investigators say Grant was shot twice and died at the scene. Attempts to locate the vehicle described by the man who killed Grant have been unsuccessful, authorities say.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Charleston County Sheriff's Office at 843-202-1700 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
