CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Police arrested a second suspect in a strong armed robbery that happened Monday near America and Lee Streets in downtown Charleston.
Michael Eugene Nickens, 22, of Dingle Street, has been charged with strong armed robbery. Nickens, who is on parole for grand larceny, is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
According to police, the victim went to the corner of America Street and Lee Street to use the pay phone when he was grabbed from behind and held by one of the suspects. Then, at least three or four other suspects assaulted and robbed him.
The victim was treated at the scene by EMS.
Jamar Aikeem Brown, 19, of Jackson Street, was arrested about 40 minutes after the incident at Jackson Street and America Street. Brown, who also is charged with strong armed robbery, is also being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
