MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Horry County authorities have investigated seven slayings through the first 70 days of this year, more than the last three years combined.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported two slayings were reported through the first week of March in each of the last three years.
The solicitor for the 15th Judicial Circuit says the number of slaying is a reason for concern but not panic. Greg Hembree says the increase won't necessarily mean higher than average numbers at the end of the year.
He says he is concerned, however, about the cases that are gang-related because they can lead to more killings, especially if they involve a turf war.
