NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston police officer is recovering after authorities say he was shot early Saturday morning.
According to a spokesperson with the North Charleston Police Department, officers responded just before 3 a.m. to a report of a theft at a home on South Allen Drive. The victim was able to give officers a description of the suspect.
A short time later an officer spotted a person who matched the description of the suspect at El Cheapo Gas Station at Dorchester Road and South Allen Drive.
Authorities say when the officer approached him, the suspect opened fire. The officer was shot twice. He was taken to MUSC with non life threatening injuries. The spokesperson for the police department says the officer did not fire his weapon.
Police are still searching for the suspect. Authorities describe him as a skinny black male, 6'2", wearing all black clothing, headband, shoulder length dreads. Anyone with information should contact North Charleston Police at 554-5700.
