CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office announced a reward will be offered for information leading to the arrest of whoever shot and killed 5-year-old Allison Griffor.

Allison was shot in the head while sleeping in her West Ashley home. Sheriff Al Cannon says the pellets used in the shooting are similar to deer shot pellets.

The sheriff says if the killer's friends know something and don't come forward, they will be prosecuted.

"We're going to find this individual and if any of his friends know anything about it, they better come forward because they won't have any opportunity otherwise," Sheriff Cannon said."If they don't come forward, they go down with this individual."

The shooting happened early Tuesday morning at a home on Pierpont Avenue. Allison's father was also injured, but is doing fine. Allison was pulled off life support on Thursday.

"I've been in this business for a long time and I've seen a lot of terrible and tragic events. This is right at the top of the list," Sheriff Cannon said.

Richard Douglas says that the Griffor family made the difficult decision to take 5-year-old Allison Griffor off life support on Thursday.

No word yet on funeral arrangements for the child, who was a kindergartner at Drayton Hall Elementary. The Griffor family donated her organs.

The family released the following statement:

"We're writing this to express our gratitude for all the love and support for Allison at this time. We want to inform you that our precious little girl has left to be with the Lord. We wanted to share a little about her to you all.

Allison was an amazing person with a silly, fun, bubbly, loving life all around her with a passion that seems to be unrivaled by any that we have ever experienced. She was a fierce friend. Whenever her friends fell down she would rush to their aid to make sure they were okay.

She was a leader, an artist. She would sit for periods of time and color with a seriousness of a doctor in surgery. She was an awesome sister to her two brothers and always did everything with them.

She would ride Lucas' tricycle around the house playing tag with Aidan and Lucas. I will forever see her corky poses and smiles in my mind's eye. Every time I came home from work each day, I am always greeted with her huge smile and yelling,'Daddy's home,' with excitement and she's quickly followed by the boys.

She would give these hugs that you felt in your soul, just encompassing you in her full love.

We will always remember Allison for the beautiful person that she is. She has went to be with the Lord. But she will forever be the biggest part of all of us.

We are grateful for the five short years the Lord has blessed with us. We look forward to being greeted with a hug when we are finally reunited.

Even though this great tragedy, the Lord has shown a positive action now even as we believe she's going to heaven she is still able to save lives through the gift of her love through donation.

We always knew that she was destined for greatness. We were just picturing it a different way.

We don't harbor any anger nor revenge regarding this tragedy. We will move forward in the Lord with patience and faith as we hold to our memories of our great blessing.

Jason Sakran of the Charleston County School District also released the following statement:

"There are no words to describe the tragic loss of a child. Our hearts go out to the friends and family of Allison Griffor. We stand in support of the Drayton Hall Elementary community, and we send our thoughts and prayers to the Griffor family."

School officials say they will have an elementary school guidance counselor on site and a district crisis team is offering supports as needed to faculty and students at Drayton Hall.
