CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County sheriff's deputies are looking for 22 year old James Kortez McFadden.
McFadden is wanted on charges of larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses.
"It's alleged Mr. McFadden sold a car to a towing company who in turn sold that car to a salvage yard or scrap yard," said Charleston County Deputy Reggie Sharpe.
But investigators say the sale was an illegal one.
"Mr. McFadden wasn't the lawful owner of the car. The car was stolen from someone else, so Mr. McFadden got the money for a stolen car and the tow company is out the money that they purchased it from him," Sharpe said.
Cops couldn't prove that it was McFadden who stole the car.
"Either way it's stolen property so he benefited from it and it's time for him to come forward and answer to it," Sharpe said.
Sharpe said the actual owner of the car was tipped off that it was at the scrap metal yard and he was able to recover it before it was turned into scrap metal.
"Everybody would have stood to make money on the deal had it been a legitimate transaction, but it wasn't."
McFadden stands 5'11" and weighs about 175 lbs.
His last known address was on Roper Run Road in Ravenel.
