ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - Orangeburg police used "chemical agents" to force a man who ran from police Wednesday to leave the house in which he had barricaded himself.
Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Captain Mike Adams said the unidentified man barricaded himself in a house on Fairfield Street within the city limits around noon. After several hours of unsuccessful attempts to make contact with the man, Adams said officers deployed "chemical agents" into the home to force the man to surrender.
Adams says the man was being pursued by the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office when he jumped out of a car and ran into a residential area. He then forced his way into the house by kicking in the back door, police said.
The owner of the home was able to exit the front of the house, but Adams said the unknown suspect stayed inside alone.
