COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Deputies say they have arrested a 53-year-old Summerville man who was attempting to burglarize an abandoned plant in Colleton County Friday afternoon.
The Colleton County Sheriff's Office has charged Clarence Alexander Middleton with third-degree burglary.
The sheriff's office received a call that witnesses saw someone at the abandoned N&N Ball and Roller Plant on 1604 Industrial Road. When deputies arrived, they found Middleton with a pick axe.
A 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was also found parked inside the plant.
Owners of the plant responded and verified that no one had permission to be on the premises or take anything from the plant.
Authorities say the plant has been a target for copper and metal thefts recently. Middleton was locked up at the Colleton County Detention Center.
