Charleston, SC (AP) - The Charleston Police Department has been reaccredited, completing a 3-year review by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
The department announced Tuesday that it also received the accreditation with excellence award from the commission.
Back in April, a team reviewed the department's policies, procedures, equipment and facilities. The team also spoke with members of the community about the department and held a public listening session.
The department has 412 sworn officers, 137 civilians and several reserve police officers.
Police Chief Greg Mullen says the accreditation and the award show the hard work and dedication of those who serve with the department.
