CHARLESTON, SC - Charleston City Police are looking for Donald Burtchell. Burtchell, 38, is wanted on a charge of grand larceny.
Investigators say Burtchell stole more than $2,000 worth of jewelry from a home at Peninsula Cove Drive on Daniel Island in August, 2009.
"It was probably a trusted friend, so basically the words to the citizens are be careful who you bring into your home," said Charleston City Police Cpl. Fred Bowie.
"That's the big thing here. It's somebody in a position of trust basically taking advantage of it."
Investigators say Burtchell made one big mistake, by pawning the stolen items. That helped authorities trace the crime back to him.
"We have very good cooperation with pawn shop owners and normally when they see something like this where a person comes in with some stuff that may look a little suspicious, they'll give us that call," Bowie said.
Burtchell stands 5'9" and weighs about 150 lbs.
His last known address was on Crossroads Drive in North Charleston. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
