BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A woman is out more than $2,500 after police say three people stole her purse and cashed 10 fraudulent checks.
The victim told Summerville police that someone stole her purse out of her car in Berkeley county. Officers suspect that two men and a woman are involved in the illegal activity.
Police say 10 checks were cashed in four different areas including, Berkeley County, North Charleston, Dorchester County and Charleston. Police say the suspects carried the stolen purse into a store when they cashed fraudulent checks.
A total of $2,517.73 was stolen from the victim's account.
"I didn't think much about until I started getting checks going through my account, one after another, hundreds and hundreds of dollars," said Paula Jones, the victim of the purse theft.
"It's one thing to use my checkbook, but she had my purse on her shoulder, and she pulled out my wallet and that was my stuff and it hurts, it's personal."
Police are looking for help identifying the suspects who were caught on surveillance video cashing the stolen checks. The suspects were also seen getting into a car as they were leaving Sears.
