NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A suspect is in custody after police say he led officers on a chase and was seen throwing cocaine out the window of the car Wednesday night. The chase ended when the suspect's car stalled and caught fire.
North Charleston police arrested 25-year-old Sivan Lavester Doctor and charged him with failure to stop for blue lights and trafficking.
The incident began at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when officers attempted a traffic stop on the driver of a silver Buick at Ashley Phosphate and Stall Road. According to police, the vehicle quickly pulled into the parking lot of the BP gas station and a middle-aged female attempted to get out of the passenger side of the vehicle while it was moving and fell onto the concrete.
The vehicle, now occupied by the suspect, sped off down Stall Road on to Midland Park Road. Officers observed the driver, later identified as Doctor, throwing cocaine out of the driver's side window as he continued driving down Rivers Avenue to Remount Road and North Rhett Avenue.
The vehicle eventually stalled as the driver entered onto Interstate 526 west. The vehicle started to
smoke and then catch fire.
Doctor exited the car and surrendered to police. Officers collected approximately 20 grams of cocaine from the roadway and seized cash and marijuana from inside the vehicle.
