SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Summerville police are looking for 26 year old John Williams.

Williams is wanted on a charge of burglary first degree in connection with the January 2009 theft of guns from his former roommate's apartment.

"Five handguns and two long barrels taken, turns out the gentleman who took them was an old roommate who knew how to get into the house, knew where he kept the guns," said Summerville Police Capt. Jon Rogers.

Police believe Williams had one motive in mind when he allegedly took the weapons.

"I think the guy was just looking for some money. He took the guns within a short amount of time," said Rogers.

"A lot of times we don't get these guns back and that's where we start running into problems. We have these stolen guns running around, people start getting hurt with them. We've got to track them down."

Rogers said the stolen guns were recovered in Sumter. Now they need your help to find Williams.

Rogers says Williams has ties to Sumter where the guns were found, but also is known to come back to the Lowcountry from time to time.

He stands 5'11" and weighs about 225 lbs.
