SUMMERVILLE, SC — Police are asking for help finding out who stole more than $50,000 worth of copper wire from an electrical contracting company.
Summerville police responded to a burglary call at Gregory Electric Company on Monday.
Someone cut a hole into a chain-link fence and dug a hole beneath an electric fence surrounding the business at 205 Varnfield Dr. the night before. Once inside the fence, the burglars cut the locks to four trailers and Conex boxes that contained five spools of copper wire worth about $50,000, according to an incident report released Tuesday.
None of the alarms inside the business activated during the burglary but the officer noticed the business next door had security cameras. Officers viewed the video from 2:53 a.m. Monday morning and saw a late 1990s Dodge Ram pickup truck backing into the rear of the business. Four minutes later the same truck is seen leaving the business with a trailer bed full of items, the report says.
The truck has chrome rims and it's passenger headlight is out. The color isn't distinguishable from the videotape.
