JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County deputies are investigating after a gun fight and a car crash led to the death of one person early Wednesday morning.

The sheriff's office says it started with a fight at the Creekside Cafe on James Island and turned into a shootout down Folly Rd.

Shots were fired just before 3 a.m. at the Kangaroo Express at the intersection of Folly Road and Camp Road. Minutes later, a car crashed into a tree near the intersection of Central Park Road and Folly Road.

One person in that vehicle was killed. Two others were taken to MUSC for treatment.

Deputies also responded to a crime scene on Highway 61 and Sam Rittenburg Boulevard in West Ashley. The car was turned sideways on a sidewalk.

Investigators believe all three of these incidents stemmed from the fight at the cafe.

Folly Road between Central Park Road and Harbor View Road will be shut down for an indefinite amount of time Wednesday morning. The closure also extends to the James Island Connector between Fleming Road. and Central Park Road. Drivers should find an alternate route.

Four schools will also be impacted by the traffic changes: Harbor View Elementary, James Island Charter High School, O'Quinn School, and Murray-LaSaine Elementary.
