NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - On Sunday June 21, 2009, at approximately 9:18 pm, members of the North Charleston Police Department's Narcotics Unit conducted a controlled purchase of two kilograms of cocaine from a subject identified as Jose Garcia-Medrano.
During the active narcotics investigation, Garcia-Medrano agreed to meet with an undercover officer and sell two kilograms of cocaine. The suspect arrived at the incident location off of University Blvd and presented two kilograms of cocaine to the undercover officer at which time he was arrested without incident.
Another Hispanic male, Jose Alberto Alfonso, arrived at the location in a separate vehicle and acted as Garcia-Medrano's "lookout" during the transaction. Both individuals were associates and working in concert in an attempt to facilitate the transaction.
The total weight of the cocaine was 2,257.8 with a total approximate street value of $225,780.00. Both suspects are lodged at the Charleston County jail.
