HOLLYWOOD, SC — A gunman shot a man in the mouth and back during an attempted robbery early Thursday at the Charleston Blues Club on S.C. Highway 162, officials said.
When Julius Singleton Jr., 29, left the club at 3:45 a.m., a stranger approached him, told him to "give it up" and then fired four or five shots, according to the sheriff's office report.
The suspect was described by the victim as a black man, five feet nine inches tall and about 170 pounds. He wore a black shirt and red pants, the sheriff's office report stated.
Singleton was transported by helicopter to Medical University Hospital and is expected to survive, said John Clark, sheriff's public information officer.
In April 2008, another shooting at the Charleston Blues Club turned fatal.
Eighteen-year-old Edward Forrest III was shot and killed following an argument.
Robert T. Heyward was charged with Forrest's killing.
While Heyward was out on bond he racked up more charges in an unrelated shooting in March at a Hollywood music studio.
Authorities do not have a suspect in Thursday's shooting, which is not related to the other shootings, Clark said.
